Pierre Gasly has officially lost his Monaco Grand Prix podium after the FIA’s International Court of Appeal ruled on the long-running dispute during the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza. The court upheld appeals from McLaren and Red Bull and reinstated the two five-second penalties originally given to the Alpine driver for pit-lane speeding.
Gasly had crossed the line third in Monaco, but the penalties initially dropped him to seventh and promoted Isack Hadjar to the podium. Alpine successfully secured a Right of Review days later after presenting new evidence relating to the timing system, which saw the penalties removed and Gasly restored to third.
But that was not the end of the story. McLaren and Red Bull appealed the revised decision, with the International Court of Appeal hearing the case in Paris on August 25. Its verdict has now overturned the June 12 decision, meaning Gasly's two penalties stand and the Monaco classification must be amended once again.
For Hadjar, meanwhile, the decision gives him back third place in Monaco, adding another podium result to his Formula 1 record.
