McLaren will introduce a significant round of upgrades at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix as the team continues its development programme under Formula 1's new technical regulations. The package is centred on changes to the floor and other aerodynamic areas, with the team hoping the revisions can deliver additional performance at the Hungaroring. The updates arrive after McLaren showed strong pace at several circuits earlier in the season but has continued to face competition from rivals as teams develop their cars. The Hungarian Grand Prix, with its slower corners and limited straight-line running compared with Spa, will provide a different test of the MCL40's latest specification.
McLaren will also use the opening practice session to evaluate an experimental rear-wing concept. The design, which has attracted attention because of its unusual approach to improving aerodynamic efficiency, is being tested as the team looks for further gains. However, the experimental component is not expected to form part of the race specification this weekend.
