Lando Norris claimed his first Grand Prix victory of the 2026 season in Budapest, converting pole position into a win after a dramatic afternoon at the Hungaroring.
Norris initially lost the lead to McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri at the start, but the race eventually swung back in his favour. Piastri's challenge disappeared late in the race when a gearbox problem forced him to retire under the Virtual Safety Car, ending what had looked like a strong chance of victory.
Max Verstappen took second for Red Bull, while Kimi Antonelli produced one of the drives of the race to recover from seventh on the grid and secure the final podium position for Mercedes.
Charles Leclerc finished fourth for Ferrari, with Lewis Hamilton classified fifth after a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Hamilton exceeded the pit-lane speed limit by just 0.1 km/h, but the penalty was enough to drop him behind his team-mate at the finish. His result came after he had already been forced to start fifth following his three-place grid penalty for impeding Piastri in qualifying.
Isack Hadjar finished sixth, ahead of George Russell, while Liam Lawson and Nico Hulkenberg took eighth and ninth. Arvid Lindblad completed the points in tenth after another impressive weekend for the Racing Bulls driver
For Norris, however, the headline is simple: after a long wait, he finally has his first Grand Prix victory of 2026.
